The magic of skating and ice hockey does not reign and enchant in cold climes alone. In Singapore, an ice rink was opened a couple of months ago, to the delight of the residents who flocked to see this state of the art facility, replete with all amenities and sleek changing room furniture and measuring 30 by 60 metres. Here is a fantastic venue for recreation on ice: skating, ice hockey, figure skating, or just novice skating at slow pace. Thanks to the Community and Sports Facilities Scheme designed to foster the integration o0f sports facilities in private commercial spots, the ice rink is a feature of the JCube Shopping Centre in Singapore. An ice rink which offers so many opportunities needs users with at least some practice and skills. That is why there was a nationwide programme implemented for prospective skaters of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. In the course of five weeks, all volunteers were taught foundational skills in the art of skating, and are expected to show them off on a regular basis. The number of participants who enrolled in the skating course was 500, an impressive number of candidate skaters for Singapore, and there were another 250 enthusiasts who were proud to take part in the first league of ice hockey held at the new ice rink. Skates, Gloves and socks can be rented; the only staple users should bring is their good mood and enjoyment brimming over.
