Goalkeeper - the one with the reflexes!

posted by admin in Uncategorized

In the game of Ice Hockey, it is only the goalkeeper who is allowed to hold the puck in his hands. This taskmaster who guards the goal, has to be someone with quick reflexes. A puck at times travels at the pace of a bullet of the ice, and one has a mere second or two, to judge its direction and height. A goalkeeper, who wears safety gear equivalent to a space suit, needs to control his weight along with the equipment, and move in the right direction. Only someone with ultra quick reflex actions can pull this off.

First Ice Rink Opened in Singapore

posted by admin in Uncategorized

The magic of skating and ice hockey does not reign and enchant in cold climes alone. In Singapore, an ice rink was opened a couple of months ago, to the delight of the residents who flocked to see this state of the art facility, replete with all amenities and sleek changing room furniture and measuring 30 by 60 metres. Here is a fantastic venue for recreation on ice: skating, ice hockey, figure skating, or just novice skating at slow pace. Thanks to the Community and Sports Facilities Scheme designed to foster the integration o0f sports facilities in private commercial spots, the ice rink is a feature of the JCube Shopping Centre in Singapore. An ice rink which offers so many opportunities needs users with at least some practice and skills. That is why there was a nationwide programme implemented for prospective skaters of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. In the course of five weeks, all volunteers were taught foundational skills in the art of skating, and are expected to show them off on a regular basis. The number of participants who enrolled in the skating course was 500, an impressive number of candidate skaters for Singapore, and there were another 250 enthusiasts who were proud to take part in the first league of ice hockey held at the new ice rink. Skates, Gloves and socks can be rented; the only staple users should bring is their good mood and enjoyment brimming over.

Safety gear used in ice hockey and the specialty of the skate

posted by admin in Uncategorized

The puck in a game of ice hockey is the object that is the one around which the game revolves. Much like the ball in a game of football, this is the object that players endeavor to gain control of and push it into the opponent’s goal post. However, in ice hockey the puck moves at a speed of over 160 kilometer per hour given the slick icy surface which is hard, upon which the game is played. It is therefore natural for the players also to move at equally if not higher speeds to maneuver the ball within their team’s control.

Ice hockey in UK- more publicity is needed

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Do you think administrators of ice hockey in UK adopt a more proactive and public approach? One advantage of the administrators coming forward is that the game would automatically enjoy more publicity. Otherwise, the game will get publicity only when a tournament is being organised in the country. The coach of the English cricket team or the chairperson of the English Cricket Board do not get publicity only when a test match or an ODI is being organised in England, right?

Norwich horsemen lose their sole practice rink

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Over the past few weeks, I have been very optimistic about the spread of ice hockey in the world. I have also been very happy at the spread of ice hockey in England. However, this does not mean we can afford to be complacent. To presume that ice hockey will automatically flourish in England just because it snows regularly can lead to disastrous consequences. We are already beginning to see the consequences of our casual and complacent approach. The sole ice rink in Norwich is being shut down.

Ice hockey- a delicious dream here

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Now that ice hockey is becoming popular in countries where it does not snow, one can hope for is a drastic improvement in the reach of this game. I look forward to the day when this game will be included in the Summer Olympics due to the fact that countries without a real winter too participate in the sport. The discomfiture of the authorities and organizers will be worth enjoying. This day is not going to come soon but there is no harm in dreaming, right?

You would probably consider using the used coat until you reach the stage where you can purchase a brand-new one with your own money. Adult Ice hockey learning

posted by admin in Uncategorized

Many are of the opinion that ice hockey is a game that cannot be started after turning into an adult. However, this is not so and one can start to learn this game even if not done so at a young age. There is the necessity of learning to skate for playing ice hockey and that is where one must start at. The art of ice skating itself is a time consuming one and requires dedicated effort. It is not only the fundamentals of ice skating that one has to pick up but also the expert methods wherein one can stop and move forward at short and prompt timing. Joining up at any of the local ice skating rinks is good enough to pick up the learning of ice skating.

Jews and Arabs make peace on the ice rink

Sociologists have often pondered about the importance of sports in our lives. There was a time when sports were essential to stay fit. They were a necessity and not matter of entertainment. A person who had to run after a fast animal to hunt it down has to practice running. The fastest runner would automatically be an asset to society. The same applied to javelin throwing as well. If you take a look at the most popular of sports, you will realize that it is based on certain ancient aspects of our society that were inherently linked to survival of mankind.
