Ice Hockey – A Simple Pleasing Game

People often underestimate the popularity of ice hockey simply because they do not see or hear anything beyond ice. The moment they hear about a sport that is played on ice, they automatically presume that it is going to be a very expensive affair. The primary reason why football and hockey are so popular is because it does not cost a lot to play this game.

If you want to play football, you just need a ball that can be handled by your foot. If you want to play hockey, you just need a ball that can be tackled with a stick in your hand. Ice hockey just takes it a step further and adds skates to your feet. Once you have an object that will slide over the ice, skates on your feet and a stick in your hand, you are ready to play ice hockey.

There are many who practice this sport by using plastic mats. This is another factor that one must consider before concluding that ice hockey cannot become a global sport. The actual game may be played on ice but the practice sessions involving basic stick skills and other such activities can be conducted on other terrain as well.

This is probably the reason why ice hockey is quickly becoming very popular in Australia. Normally, one would consider a hot country like Australia to be the last place where ice hockey would become popular. However, New Zealand is very fond of this sport and is considered a strong team by the world fraternity.

The trans-Tasmanian rivalry combined with the fact that technological alternatives are available means that ice hockey is becoming popular in Australia as well. One just hopes the doctors are aware of the violence in the game so that they can avoid charges of clinical negligence when a really patched up athlete lands on the operating table.
